PITB to implement hospital management information system in 17 hospitals across Punjab

To provide state of the art medical facilities to one million PESSI (Punjab Employees Social Security Institute) workers and their family members, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will implement Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) of Shaukat Khanam Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) at 17 government hospitals across Punjab.

The PITB chairman Azfar Manzoor, CEO SKMCH Dr. Faisal Sultan and Commissioner PESSI Saqib Manan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Arfa Software Technology Park on Monday. The first hospital to get this information management system is Rahmatul Lil Alameen Institute of Cardiology Social Security Hospital Lahore. Prescription Management, Medicine Inventory Management, Blood Bank, etc. are some of the major features of this management system.

CEO SKMCH Dr. Faisal Sultan said, “Hospital Management Information System is an integrated IT solution of cross-function automation of hospital’s various departments which helps to simplify & speed up the routine operations, improves clinical service delivery and helps in data-enabled clinical decision making. It also provides data for Research & Development and ensures transparency while improving patient experience”.

Chairman PITB said that the MOU will help to improve facilities for patients in social security hospitals. He added that PITB is extremely qualified as it has massive experience in successfully implementing HMIS at several hospitals. He said, “Our Implementation methodology is one of its kind, tailored to our environment and culture and the 28 public hospitals in Punjab are evidence of this success”.

The Provincial Minister for Labour & HR Ansar Majeed Khan Niazi while addressing during the event said that the PM Imran Khan has given him a task to make public service delivery efficient and accessible to the general public. He said that the Health and Education are the two most important sections in this society that require immediate attention.

While praising the performance of PITB, the Commissioner of PESSI Saqib Manan said that the World Bank has introduced an important project named “Ease of Doing Business in Pakistan” and PITB has helped us to achieve all the tasks given by the World Bank under this project.

Dr. Faisal Sultan said that Shoukat Khanam has provided the management system free of cost to PESSI and has been in use of Shoukat Khanam Hospital for more than 20 years.

Other key features of this information system include Patient Assessment, Queue Management, Outpatient Inpatient, Lab and Pharmacy, Medicine Inventory Management, Fixed Assets, HR Management System, Finance & Accounts, and Reporting Engine.
