During the past three years, we all witnessed an accelerated technological and entrepreneurial activity within Punjab and in a very short period of time, we have reached a point where a tech-savvy province in Pakistan seem closer than it was before This has all been possible due to the efforts of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the man behind these efforts, Vice Chancellor & Chairman PITB, Dr. Umar Saif.
Recently, Dr. Umar Saif shared on his Facebook profile that PITB has successfully completed 173 projects in the past 3 years under his command. All of these projects were categorized under Process Automation, Citizen Facilitation, Evidence-Based Monitoring in addition to other flagship projects such as establishment of government set-up technology incubator Plan9, Arfa Software Technology, Citizen Facilitation & Service Centers, e-Stamping, Asani Markaz App and much more.
Additionally, we were told that PITB was also working on an open data initiative platform which will provide different government datasets to the public. These data sets can then be used to extract and analyze useful information that will be helpful for media, companies, and research community within Pakistan in solving data-driven problems.
Dr. Umar Saif – a scientist and an innovator, has already been recognized for his efforts by masses and government awarded him with ‘‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ last year for his monumental services to the country. Earlier this year, we did hear a rumor of his resignation, but we were glad that it was nothing more than a misunderstanding.
