People of this region spend 57.6 million extra hours on Facebook during Ramadan

In a recent survey by Facebook, it was found that People living in the Middle East and North Africa(MENA) region spend 57.6 million hours extra on the Facebook during the holy month of Ramadan.

Living in this fast paced life social sites such as Facebook are becoming more and more relevant to our lives. The latest Facebook survey proves this phenomenon.

The survey was released yesterday by Facebook, and it said, “ Facebook users in the Middle East and North Africa region spend 57.6 million hours extra on social media platform (Facebook) during the holy month of Ramadan”.

During Ramadan, residents of the Middle East and North Africa region are found surfing on social media platform, posting and sharing images and videos. Watching television is among the most popular pastimes during the month as families gather together to watch specially commissioned shows. While watching TV, it is not the only screen people view as 71 percent of users in the UAE said they are logged onto Facebook at the same time.

“Facebook IQ research also discovered that online usage is expected to peak at 3 a.m. during Ramazan among 152 million users of the region”, the survey also said.

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims around the world. People abstain from eating or drinking anything from sunrise to sunset during the whole month.

Recently, a law has been passed by the Senate of Pakistan Standing Committee on Religious Affairs that states “people who smoke or eat openly in Ramadan will be fined up to Rs.25,000 with 3-months imprisonment”.

The law was heavily criticized by Bakhtawar Zardari, stating it as anti-Islamic.
