Pakistani youth are to participate in the Information Technology World Certiport for the first time. The event will be held in July 2014 in Disneyland, California, TEC Education Foundation president Engineer Senator Rukhsana Zuberi told reporters at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday.
Rukhsana said the competition offered mega opportunities to Pakistani youth to showcase their IT skills on the world forum besides opening career development opportunities and helping improve the country’s soft image abroad.
She said though the event had been taking place since 2004, Pakistan had never participated in it. The TEC education foundation president expressed the hope that efforts would be made for taking all required resources for Pakistan’s participation in the next championship competition.
“We are inviting Pakistani youth between 13 and 22 years of age to compete and become champions”, she said.
She added that around 139 institutes had registered themselves for the competition, prominent among them are: Fauji Fertilizer, Fauji Foundation, Generation School, Beacon House, Government College of Technology for Girls, Bahria Foundation, Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP), Forebel’s School, The City School, Kinnaird College, Army Public School, Progressive Public Schools, Danish Schools, DA Public, Dawood Public School, South Shore, Pakistan Air force, Oasis, Avicenna, Imperial International Schools and Colleges.
The preparations and practice for the event is currently going on in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Mansehra, Gujarat, Jhelum, Attock, Mirpur Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Mirpur Mathelo, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Chakwal, Attock, Arrar, Sahiwal, Dera Ismail Khan, Fatehjang, Gujjar Khan, Khaur, Khoshab, Kohat, Nowshera, Mardan, Murree and Muzaffarabad.
Rukhsana Zuberi, who is the country’s first woman mechanical engineer and first lady to chair Pakistan Engineering Council, urged the media to help her organisation reach out to the educational institutions and the youth.
“Pakistani youths will be recognized at the world forum for their talents in information technology. This will open up unlimited career opportunities for them”, the senator shared.
