Pakistani engineers now will be equivalent to International professionals, PEC

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) will now award the title of “International Professional Engineer” to its professionals after an agreement done between Washington Accord and Pakistan Engineering Council.

Washington Accord has allowed PEC to award the said title to its engineers. Washington Accord is a multilateral agreement between bodies responsible for recognition of tertiary-level engineering qualifications. According to the agreement, the International Professional Engineer can now be award to engineers of all engineering disciplines. The Washington Accord has approved the authority to PEC on 29th June 2018 after reaching an agreement between both bodies.

It is important to mention that only Pakistani engineers have attained this status in the international market.

Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi, Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council, said:

“It was the most difficult target which I gave to myself and my team. Alhamdulillah, the dream came true because of your prayers. Be united to achieve other bigger targets for Engineers.”

International Professional Engineer

By winning the title of “International Professional Engineer”, Pakistani engineers can benefit from these incentives:

  • Pakistani engineers will be considered equivalent to any other professional engineer globally. PEC states that this kind of international ranking is not present to any other profession i.e. doctors, IT personnel, etc.
  • Pakistani engineers can now apply for jobs worldwide.
  • Pakistani companies/industries working abroad can now easily hire Pakistani engineers instead of foreigners, at competitive rates.
  • PEC is also going to make it mandatory for all Pakistani and foreign companies to hire 70% Pakistani “International Professional Engineers“ on all CPEC and other international projects.

It is a big step forward that Pakistani engineers will now be recognized at international level and can enjoy the job opportunities globally.
