Pakistani Authorities Detain Indian Man For Illegally Crossing Border To Meet Facebook Lover

A 30-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district was arrested in Pakistan for crossing the border illegally to meet a woman he fell in love with on Facebook. The man, identified as Badal Babu of Nagla Khatkari village, was apprehended by Pakistan’s Punjab Police on December 27, 2024 in Mandi Bahauddin city.

He confessed to entering Pakistan without the proper travel credentials during interrogation because he wanted to meet the woman he had been romantically involved with online.

Officials said Badal was arrested five days ago and is being prosecuted under Sections 13 and 14 of the Foreigners Act of Pakistan. After being brought before the court, he was placed under 14 days of judicial detention; his next hearing is set for January 10, 2025.

A similar incident occurred last year when an Indian woman, Anju, traveled to Pakistan, converted to Islam, and married a Pakistani man. Conversely, a Pakistani woman, Seema Haider, illegally entered India to marry a man she met through PUBG.

It has been reported that Badal’s family in India was not informed of his plans. His father Kripal Singh disclosed that their final interaction took place via video call on November 30 ,2024. The family has made a formal appeal to the Indian government, seeking help in ensuring his safe return.
