In less than a year since its launch, 8 months to be exact, Slide has 1 million downloads under their belt. The last time we talked about Slide on TechJuice was in April. They had 500,000 downloads then. Their popularity has grown exponentially since. It is evident by the fact that they gained another 500,000 downloads in less than two months. This feat is even more remarkable given the fact that their target audience is strictly local.

Slide was launched by Junaid Malik who previously COO at Bramerz. He took the bold step to leave his job and focus on his startup. The choice has paid off well for him. While speaking to TechJuice on 500,000 downloads , Junaid said he is grateful but at the same time isn’t surprised at Slide’s tremendous success:

“I am not surprised with our immense growth. The growth confirms that our strategy and efforts are in the right direction. Our aim is to live in every android phone of the country and we are focused to introduce more meaningful integrations on the platform.”

To a layman, you could describe Slide as news-reading app. But it is so much more than that. Slide brings an interesting twist to news reading because it lives on your mobile’s lock screen and lets you skim through the latest news.

Using the app is very simple. Just download it on your phone and log in with either your Facebook credentials or you could make a dedicated Slide account. Once you’ve done that, select the topics (Tech, Business, Food etc) you’re interested in. The app will then display articles relevant to your interest right on your home screen.

Another interesting feature in Slide that keeps users hooked is that it offers rewards to its users for basically even using the app. For every article that you read via Slide, your rewards keep on increasing. Once a substantial amount has been accumulated you can use it to avail mobile balance etc.

The app has been developed using the Material Design aesthetic and fits seamlessly into your everyday mobile usage.
