Pakistan Ranked One Of Top IT Service Provider To Overseas Customers Globally

Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan chaired the first meeting of the Services Trade Development Council (STDC) on Tuesday to enhance the export services of the country. During the meeting, it was noted that Pakistan was ranked the fourth largest IT service provider to the overseas clients with over 200,000 IT professionals from the country. The other top three countries listed as the best IT service provider are US, India and Philippines.

The STDC meeting agreed to consult with the State Bank of Pakistan to devise a suitable mechanism for facilitating IT professionals in terms of bringing their wages directly to the country. Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce will also enhance the participation of Pakistani IT companies in the international trade fares and exhibitions to market the Pakistani Technology Industry.

The newly acquired position in IT industry compelled the Minister to take measures for enhancing the capacity of the freelances and small offices providing IT services to foreign clients. The STDC meeting also focused on training the trade officers abroad to effectively market the Pakistani Technology industry.

Other future objectives discussed were related to religious tourism and intra-SAARC trade of services. The STDC meeting was attended by representative of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, Secretary Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, representatives of Pakistan Software Houses Association for Information Technology, Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association, Travel Agents Association of Pakistan, Insurance Association of Pakistan and Constructors Association of Pakistan.

Do you think government will be able to facilitate Freelancers and startups this year? May be these professions will finally receive much-deserved respect and recognition within Pakistani community. Don’t you agree?
