Pakistan & India top countries for selfies related deaths

According to a study conducted by the scholars of Carnegie Mellon University, USA and Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, 127 people have died because of clicking selfies and many injured. India tops the list with 76 deaths and Pakistan is on second with 9 deaths. The research is titled “Me, Myself and My Killfie: Characterizing and Preventing Selfie Deaths.”

Enjoy every moment rather than trying to capture it in cameras. Three students of India died while trying to capture the coolest selfie in front of approaching train. Seven lost their lives on a boat when it tilted because they were clicking a selfie. Men are prone to taking dangerous selfies than women as per study.

“(The) clicking of dangerous selfies (has proved) to be so disastrous that during the year 2015 alone, there have been more deaths caused due to selfies than shark attacks all over the world,” the researchers said in a blog post.

Pakistan grabbed second spot in the global killfie rankings with nine deaths, followed by the United States with eight, Russia on six and China with four casualties. A tourist deceased while taking selfie in Taj Mahal when he slipped down the stairs.


Most of the accidents were height-related and others were water, train, weapons, electricity, animals and vehicles. Most of the deaths in India were water-related, approximately 87%. Now Indian government has started to establish “no-selfie” zones on various tourist sites.

“By analyzing selfie deaths—in terms of group and individual deaths, it can be concluded that taking dangerous selfies not only puts the selfie-taker at a risk but also can also be hazardous to the people around them,” the study said.

A few number of “Likes, Comments and followers” on social media are not worth your life.
