Pakistan grabs 3 Golds and 1 Silver at Asia Pacific ICT Awards

Keeping the tradition alive, this year Team Pakistan has grabbed 3 golds and 1 silver award at Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) held in Sri Lanka.

APICTA awards is an International platform for innovators and entrepreneurs in the ICT sector of Asia for recognition of their products, broadening of their capabilities and networking with like-minded people. The event has been held annualy since 2001; year after year contributing to recognizing indigenous ICT products of the Aisa-Pacific region and helping develop and promote them as well.

This year’s P@SHA delegation comprised 50 members with 22 technology products competing for the prestigious APICTA Awards against 197 products from 17 economies in the region. Team Pakistan delivered another stunning performance in front of the Who’s Who of the technology industry in the Asia Pacific region incategories that are extremely competitive.

APICTA consists of 16 member countries or economies, which include: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao S.A.R, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Nepal. Entry to the awards program is open to the winners of similar awards programs in each member country of the APICTA. Companies are nominated by their economy and travel to the awards where they present their solution to a panel of judges. Judges come from every member country, which ensures a fair and equitable judging process.

This year’s five-day event, which ends on 22 November, has brought forth some very worthy contenders. Here’s a look at the Pakistani winners:

Product: Active and Intelligent Powered Ankle Foot Prosthesis for Trans-tibial Amputees.

The objective of this project is to build and run a prototype of an intelligent powered ankle foot prosthesis based on electromyography, capable of providing active mechanical power at terminal stance, can improve amputee metabolic walking economy compared to a passive or passive-elastic prosthesis.

Product: Mobile Audio Streaming Service

This service streams the audio feed from all popular TV and Radio stations in Pakistan, allowing access to live audio from TV & Radio via a simple phone call.  The service does not require mobile broadband, and is accessed via a dial-in short code.  

The application is hosted on a Linux platform.  It requires telephony cards for connecting audio calls from the mobile operator to the software application. The live feed of each channel is received by our application via standard TV-Tuner PC boxes, converted into a digital signal by our application, and only the audio stream is picked up for broadcast via our service.

The service works like a standard radio, and allows listeners to hear a live audio feed from their favorite TV as well as radio channels.  Imagine travelling on the motor way and being able to dial-in to hear Samaa’s news headlines, PTV Sport, Business Plus, or any one of over 25 TV channels or 8 Radio Stations.  The extensive multilingual audio menu allows you to easily browse between channels, just as you would on a personal audio.  The service includes content in Urdu, English, Pushto, and Sindhi
