Pakistan to get its first Media University with a dedicated technology hub, says Fawad

In a meeting regarding the formation of a Media University in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Federal Minister of Information and broadcasting, Fawad Ch said that the government is planning to build a truly Media University. The university would also include a dedicated technology hub to equip the young generation with advanced tools.

The minister said that the modern age of the internet and the rise in the usage of social media has changed the ways people perceive things today. It is important that future generations learn new innovative skills to practice and take charge in the media industry.

The information minister added that Pakistan Television Network (PTV), Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and Information service academies will be merged into a single state of the art landmark University. The syllabus will be decided after consulting with all the stakeholders, and it will cover all the important subjects including the courses on drama production, film and cinema studies.

Ch Fawad Hussain said that the university will not just impart knowledge about news media and other journalistic disciplines to the students, but will also focus on teaching them the best digital technological practices which will be required in the developing media sector.

The Minister also seeks assistance and partnership from the Chinese telecom giant “Huawei” in this journey of building a technical school as part of the first Media University.

He also said that the CEO of Huawei Pakistan Saif Chi showed a great interest to contribute in this venture, and also briefed in detail about how Huawei is already collaborating with different media institutions in China.

Last month the Ministry of Science and Technology also devised a plan to establish a science and technology park in Islamabad, in collaboration with COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI). The project aims to provide students with the tools and facilities to conduct scientific research.
