Pakistan and China sign agreement on donkey meat export, further expanding bilateral cooperation

Pakistan and China signed a protocol on quarantine conditions for the export of donkey meat to China a new phase in trade relations. The agreement was signed after detailed negotiations between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, along with discussions on other aspects of bilateral cooperation including economics, trade, and CPEC.

The signing ceremony took place in the PM House where leaders and their entourage were present. The two sides also agreed to enhance bilateral relations in security, education, agriculture, human resource development, and science and technology.

Besides the donkey meat protocol, Pakistan and China signed documents for 13 other agreements and understandings and thus strengthened strategic cooperation. These include MoU on the framework for enhancing cooperation within the CPEC Livelihood Working Group, on the establishment of the Smart Classrooms project, and on cooperation in the fields of water conservancy, disaster prevention and mitigation, and information technology.

They also developed cultural and scientific relations through the co-production of television programs, the creation of joint laboratories, and the program of technical assistance in the sphere of firefighting vehicles. Furthermore, a currency swap of 10 billion RMB between the People’s Bank of China and the State Bank of Pakistan showed the boosting financial relations between the two countries.
