Pakistan and China Announce Collaboration for 2028 Moon Mission

ISLAMABAD: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced its collaboration with China’s Chang’E 8 mission to develop a groundbreaking lunar exploration mission, set to launch in 2028.

With the inclusion of SUPARCO’s indigenous rover in the mission to study the lunar surface, this partnership signifies a major achievement for Pakistan’s space program.

As part of the bigger International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) project, China’s Chang’E 8 mission will include the 35-kilogram rover from SUPARCO.

A Mission of Discovery and Innovation

The rover is going to land on the south pole of the moon, which is known for having difficult terrain and the possibility of making scientific findings there. The mission’s goals are to look around on the Moon’s surface, do scientific study, and test new technologies that will be used for future exploration of the Moon and other planets.

The missions will include a number of scientific tests, such as looking at lunar soil, making a map of the Moon’s surface, and trying out new technologies that will allow people to live on the Moon permanently.

Additionally, the powerful scientific instruments on SUPARCO’s rover will be very important for gathering information that could lead to more trips to the moon in the future.

This partnership with China shows how well the two countries get along and how much they both want to explore space.
