Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to generate a massive 8,800 MW in the next decade

The President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, when addressing an inaugural ceremony of International Nathiagali Summer College on Physics and Contemporary Needs in Islamabad, applauded the efforts of scientists of Pakistan in the fields Energy and Agriculture in Pakistan.

When speaking at the occasion, Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Muhammad Naeem said there is a significant need for scientific and technical manpower, along with the development of current infrastructures and technologies are an imperative requirement to rid the country of this crisis.

He added that the PAEC has been assigned the task of generating 8,800 MW of Nuclear electricity by 2030 and grow that number 5 folds to 40,000 MW by 2050 in 1.25x the original period.

The President is a strong proponent for the advancement of Science and Technology being the backbone of economic prosperity for Pakistan, He believes that science holds the key towards having a stronger economy, line of defence, growth of the agricultural sector, and for the flourishing of industries in Pakistan. Education in the sciences field is what will eventually help give Pakistan the push it needs to be a global contender.

The President further added that the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), has been working tirelessly to solve the current energy crisis plaguing the country. He supports the efforts of the upcoming projects; Chashma C-3 and C-4 and K-2 and K-3 in Karachi, which will help in alleviating the tremendous energy demand needed by Karachi.

In addition, the PAEC also plans to set up Cancer Hospitals in the regions of Mardan, Gilgit and Azad Kashmir with the acquisition of land in Mardan already taken care of.
