Why need a delivery app when you can order food directly from Google

Google has made ordering food online ease by adding a dedicated “Order Online” option in Google Search and Google Maps or Google Assistant. This feature works by using partnerships with various delivery companies like DoorDash, Postmates, and ChowNow. With this feature, you can now order food from any of the mentioned companies without having to download an additional app, or even visiting the restaurant’s websites.

The Order Online option will appear on your screen when you search for a restaurant supported by Google. From there you can pick between pickup, delivery and select which service you want to order your food from. If a restaurant is supported by Google, your orders will all be made through Google’s interface and Google Pay.

The working of Google Assistant implementation on iOS and Android smartphones is quite similar. Users begin by asking Google to order food from their selected restaurant. After ordering the food users then select delivery service and make choices from the food options through Google’s interface. Moreover, you can also ask Google’s voice assistant to repeat the precious order if you don’t want to go through the same process again. It is not mentioned whether this new feature is available through Google Assistant smart speakers, or through Google smart displays.

This new feature at the moment supports, DoorDash, Postmates, Delivery.com, Slice, and ChowNow, Google says that it will add support for Zuppler and other restaurants in the future. Other delivery services including Uber Eats, Deliveroo, GrubHub, and Just Eat are not supported by Google for now.

Order online is not the first food or restaurant related feature Google has added in its system, the most well known of these is Google Duplex which is an automated voice assistant with the ability to call restaurants and made orders on your behalf.
