OnePlus releases Android Oreo images for OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus uses a customized version of Android called OxygenOS in its smartphones. Earlier this month, OnePlus released the OxygenOS 5.0 (Android 8.0 Oreo) system images for the owners of its 2016 flagship, the OnePlus 3 and 3T.

This comes approximately after a month of the new OS being available to 3 and 3T users through the open beta program. Owners of the 3 and 3T can directly download the image from OnePlus’ site, or alternatively, wait till the software update is pushed to their phone.

If the former is preferred, OnePlus 3 users can download the image from here, while 3T owners can download it from here. The file is of roughly 1.5GB, and involves a relatively easy process of setting up. Detailed instructions on how to install the new OS correctly have been given on each of the two download pages.

All that has to be done is the transferring of the update file (which is in .zip format) to the phone and selecting the zip file after rebooting the phone into recovery mode.

In other news, a public beta of the Android Oreo has been launched on OnePlus 5. With this update, OnePlus 5 users can enjoy new features like picture-in-picture functionality, wherein videos can be played side by side while using another app.

The beta, however, is bound to comprise of bugs, so updating right now isn’t that advisable. Besides, the public release isn’t that far too, so why take the risk of updating to a beta?
