OnePlus 5T is finally here with bezel-less display and optimal price

One of the most awaited phones of this year, the OnePlus 5T is finally here and as you may know, it is an upgraded version of OnePlus 5 and the new flagship device by the company. Last year’s OnePlus 3T was a small upgrade over the OnePlus 3 but this year, OnePlus 5T comes with significant upgrades over OnePlus 5 and the company claims that it is the fastest phone ever (Although it features the same, Snapdragon 835, chipset which is featured in most of the flagship devices this year).

Let’s talk about the device now. OnePlus has entered into the bezel-less display race with their new device. They have introduced a 6.01-inch bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio (I think that .01 actually makes some difference). OnePlus has chosen to go with the OLED displays made by Samsung because LG made OLED displays have shown some problems on the LG V30 and Google Pixel 2 XL. So OnePlus decided to go with Samsung made displays to be on the safer side and Samsung makes one of the best displays on earth. Even a lot of YouTubers and big tech websites have praised Samsung made displays a lot of time. The display on OnePlus 5T comes with 1080 x 2160 resolution unlike the previous resolution of 1080 x 1920 on OnePlus 5 and it was a 16:9 display with big bezels. It is amazing that Samsung has put a much bigger display on a device of almost the same size. The display comes with the same, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Here’s the OnePlus 5T official introduction video:

The RAM and storage amount is exactly the same as the previous model but it is not surprising at all as the previous model already offered enough RAM and storage. It comes in 2 variants, a variant with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM or if you are a multitasking enthusiast or love to play heavy games on your phone, you can get the variant with 128GB storage and 8 GB RAM. And as you might have guessed, the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back because the bezel-less display left no space on the front of the phone. And not to forget, OnePlus 5T still has a 3.5mm audio jack and that is one of an unusual thing for the latest flagship devices. It also has the Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD for an excellent wireless listening experience.

There’s one more anomaly that unlike the last year’s OnePlus 3T, the battery capacity has not been increased in OnePlus 5T. That may be because the company has already put a bigger display on a device of the same size and they did not want to make the device bigger because of a battery. However, the battery still comes with Dash Charging, OnePlus’s own name of fast charging. OnePlus did not include wireless charging in OnePlus 5T because it thinks Dash Charging is better and I totally agree with the statement because I’ve personally used Dash Charging and it is so fast and so reliable that you won’t be able to switch “back” to slow wireless charging. The phone also lacks waterproofing.

Another major difference between these two devices is the camera. OnePlus has improved the camera of their new device by a great margin. Although the camera resolution on both phones is the same and it still comes with a dual 20+16 MP camera but the company has reworked the camera system by making the secondary camera a dedicated low-light shooter. It still records 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps, and 720p@30/120fps videos. The secondary camera is exactly the same with a 16 MP, f/2.0 lens and comes with Electronic Image Stabilization.

OnePlus 5T costs just $499 for the 64 GB model and $559 for the 128GB model. Surprisingly, the phone is only available in black for now but OnePlus might introduce more colors in near future. The phone will be launched on November 21st.
