OnePlus 3 & 3T confirmed to get Face Unlock feature in an upcoming software update

OnePlus, the famed flagship killer is all set to expedite the reach of Android’s latest software version to its older devices. The Chinese manufacturer who celebrated its 4th-anniversary last month is popular for providing smartphones with fast processing speeds and smoother Android experiences. A couple of days ago at CES, Carl Pei co-founder of the company has affirmed that OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get Face Unlock feature in an upcoming beta build.

The Face Unlock feature was firstly introduced in company’s latest flagship OnePlus 5T. The feature is software-centric unlike iPhone X’s Face ID, which works on 3D depth sensing tech via device’s front-facing camera sensors. OnePlus uses a customized version of Android for its devices called OxygenOS in its smartphones. Back in November, OnePlus released the OxygenOS 5.0 (Android 8.0 Oreo) system images for the owners of its 2016 flagship, the OnePlus 3 and 3T. As of now, the company’s director and co-founder Carl Pei has confirmed that both devices are also getting Face Unlock feature very soon.

According to Pei,

“There’s no reason to withhold features we can easily implement.”

Last month, the company announced that OnePlus 5 is also getting stable Android 8.0 Oreo and with that, the company also announced that Face Unlock feature will also be available on the device. However, a couple of weeks later the company canceled the rollout of OxygenOS 5.0 to OnePlus 5 after the discovery of a malicious bug, when the device was in the beta version. The company apologized for its earlier claim and hence assured about Oxygen 5.0.1 update which will hopefully come along Face Unlock feature.
