NUST Endowment for Educational Development (NEED) is an initiative to ensures quality education will be made accessible to everyone who deserves it.
Launched in 2015, the NUST University Advancement Office (UAO) joined hands with the NUST Alumni Network and launched NUST Endowment for Educational Development (NEED) to support need-based scholars at NUST. Since its launched, NEED has continued to help out hundreds of students each year and marked its name, especially because of its transparency and uplifting the socio-economic status of marginalized scholars.

Naweed Zaman, Rector NUST said, “To me, the biggest impact is how these numbers have transformed the lives of students at NUST in terms of making possible the classroom experience, irrespective of the financial standing of the parents.”
He added, “In 2015, around 483 students with family income less than PKR 40,000 were supported on need-based scholarships with the help of community, industry and NUST family.”
Moreover, In 2016, 487 additional students received need-based scholarships followed by 445 students in 2017. Today, a total of 1300 students are studying in NUST availing need-based scholarships.
Different other universities including LUMS, IBA, ITU, and FAST also offer need-based merit scholarship programs NUST’s NEED, however, seems to be a great initiative which also offers transparency and gives you a track that how your investment is going to be used and is something other universities in Pakistan could also take inspiration from.
