The Times Higher Education World University Rankings have shown that no Pakistani University has made to the world’s top 500 of the universities and only two of the Pakistani universities got ranked in top 800.
California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA topped the list and was succeeded by University of Oxford which ranked second.
From Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad was ranked in 501-600 while National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad got ranked in 601-800.
NUST scored 21.4 in teaching while QAU scored 17.9. QAU topped NUST in terms of International outlook and scored 35.4 as compared to NUST which scored 31.3. Again in terms of research, QAU topped NUST with a score of 9.9 as compared to NUST’s score of 7.0. For citations, QAU grabbed 45.6 points while NUST scored 35.0.
The USA surely was the prime shareholder having 147 universities being ranked on the scale. About 63 of these universities were in the top 200. There were 17 universities from India, 37 from China, and 06 from Israel, 24 from South Korea and 6 from Hong Kong. Several Islamic countries ranked better on the scale and 11 universities from Turkey, 8 from Iran, 03 from Saudi Arabia, 5 from Malaysia made to the top 800.
In March this year, about 6 Pakistani universities were in the top 800 as per QS rankings.
