The budget-friendly Nokia 2 to get Android Oreo update with Android Go features

Nokia 2 is one of the most affordable devices in the market with a handful of features and specs. HMD Global which is referred as the home of Nokia phones has been keeping its promises of super-fast Android updates for even its mid-range and low-end smartphones. After the report that HMD is going to test Android Oreo for Nokia 3, 5 and 6, a recent development in this scenario reveals that Nokia 2 is also on the list.

In response to a query over Twitter, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has affirmed that Nokia 2 is also going to get Android 8.1 Oreo update. Not only Android Oreo but also all those features of Android Go which help the device in memory management improvements will also be integrated with Nokia 2.

As the Android Go has been officially unveiled, Nokia 2 users must be wondering whether the device would make the switch to the light version of the operating system. HMD’s CPO, Sarvikas has cleared those doubts by stating that the device will continue to be performing in the standard version while using Android Go’s memory management tools.

Interestingly, Sarvikas also confirmed that the device will be pushing straight towards Android 8.1 update, instead of Android 8.0, in the same Twitter thread.

HMD is popular in introducing software optimization to make efficient use of the hardware. Whereas, Nokia 2 will not be entirely moving to Android Go program, as its technically not a Go product. The Android Go optimizations might take a little longer as the device packs only 1GB of RAM which is not much smoother in performance when it comes to day-to-day usage.

Just for a quick flashback, Nokia 2 carries 5-inch 720p display, 4G/LTE support, Qualcomm 212 chipset, and 8GB of internal storage. The big hit of the Nokia 2 is a 4100mAh battery that gives two days of battery life. In a price of just PKR 11,400, Nokia 2 is one of the best low-end Android phones in the market.
