New leak reveals the launch date for Vivo’s smartphone featuring in-screen fingerprint scanner

We have a date for the launch of most anticipated smartphone and it is closer than expected. Vivo X20 Plus UD, an upgraded version of X20 Plus with under display fingerprint sensor, has been surfacing in rumors for quite some time now. After being spotted on TENAA recently, new reports suggest that the smartphone will officially launch in China on January 25.

The famous leaker Zyad Atef has tweeted a photo of what is said to be the Vivo X20 Plus UD. The render shows a black variant of the smartphone and looks quite similar to the X20 Plus with 18:9 ratio display. Rumors also claim that the smartphone could be priced at RMB 3,998 that is $625 approximately.

One of the major differences between the two phones is that Vivo has ditched the rectangular fingerprint scanner. Instead, the upcoming smartphone is coming with an under-display fingerprint scanner. Vivo X20 Plus UD is said to be the first smartphone to get this technology.

The fingerprint scanner will be placed between the glass panel and the OLED display panel. The smartphone uses Synaptics Clear ID, which illuminates the display to read the unique pattern of the finger to authenticate owner of the device.

Just for a quick flashback, Vivo showcased the worlds first in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone at CES 2018. The first smartphone was expected to be announced sometime in the first half of 2018. If the latest rumor is anything to go by, then the smartphone could be launched as early as next week.
