Good news for the people who are planning to give fresh currency notes as Eidi to their loved ones this Eid-ul-Fitr. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that it will issue fresh currency notes to the public starting from May 20 till May 31 in exchange with the old ones for this Eid.
SBP has launched an SMS service in this regard in collaboration with Pakistan Banks Association (PBA). The authorities have set up an SMS short code “8877” for issuing fresh currency notes between May 21 to 31.
According to the notification which SBP shared this Wednesday, the person who wants to get new currency notes has to send his CNIC number with the branch code of the nearest or any selected bank to 8877.
Once you have texted them the required information, the person will receive an SMS with information regarding their Redemption Code, E-Branch Address and also an expiry date of the sent redemption code. Charges for sending an SMS to 8877 will be Rs. 2 plus tax. It is to be noted that you can only use your CNIC number once and cannot send it again using different mobile numbers.

After receiving the required details through the SMS, you can visit the branch of your respective bank with your original CNIC, its photocopy and the SMS with the Redemption Code. According to SBP, the currency notes will be available at 1700 branches across 142 cities of Pakistan.
Also, beware of those people who try to sell fresh currency notes to people in black i.e through illegal means. Every Eid there is a high demand for fresh currency notes in the market due to which many people do not get the chance to withdraw fresh currency from the bank, so what they do is try to obtain fresh currency through illegal means that means black-marketing.
There is strict punishment for people selling and receiving currency notes in black. We urge you to abstain from choosing the illegal means and go for the method which the authorities have provided to happily enjoy the blessed Eid this year.
The State Bank of Pakistan has issued the list of 172 branches of Karachi for new currency notes for Eid-ul-Fitr 2019.
