New 15,000km Submarine Cable Installed Between Pakistan and France

Just recently Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) Cable International Network Co. Ltd announced that the installation of a submarine cable infrastructure between Pakistan and France has now been completed.

The submarine cable is extremely large and connects Pakistan with many important countries, it starts from Pakistan and its main trunk lands in Singapore, Kenya, Egypt, and France. Further branches of the cable also extend towards three other countries including Maldives, Malta, and Cyprus.

Measuring 15,000km, the cable is designed to provide connectivity between Karachi and Marseille, both populous and commercially important metropolitan cities. The main trunk between Pakistan and Egypt measures around 5,800km and connects Karachi with Zafarana, which is another important city. This improved connection of Pakistan’s commercial hub with important cities worldwide is surely a sign of development for Pakistan.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), while speaking about the new submarine cable said that the new cable “adds an ultra-fast, high capacity, low latency and redundant connectivity to Pakistan’s international connectivity”.

The organization behind these new and improved sea cables is PEACE cables. Signed in 2018, the PEACE cable is basically a consortium between different countries that plan to lay submarine cables between Pakistan and different countries of the world. The 15,000km cable has the latest 200G transmission technology and WSS ROAMD BU technology, which gives the capability to transmit over 16Tbps per fiber.

Apart from improving the internet speed and latency in Pakistan, the PEACE cable also reduced costs and will go on to be a contributing factor toward the economic prosperity of not just Pakistan but the whole region.

A delegation of the PEACE cables discussed progress with the Chairman PTA Major General (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa at the PTA headquarters. The delegation included senior management positions including the Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sun Xiaohua, Director Zhang Donghai, Commercial Director Chirs Zhang, and Peace Cable’s Pakistan Manager Shoaib Ashfaq Qureshi.
