NED students’ Formula car to represent Pakistan in Italy

A group of students at NED University are going to represent Pakistan at Italy’s Formula SAE competition with their Formula car.

Conceived in 1981 by SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) of the US, the Formula SAE is a competition for students and young graduates all across the world. More than 250 teams will be taking part in the competition from the 22nd to 25th of July.

The team, led by Muhammad Ahsan Arshad and Muhammad Rafi, will be the only team from Pakistan at the Formula SAE Italy competition.

The participation has been made possible due to a sponsorship deal with K-Electric and the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NED’s mechanical department.

“We want more of our youngsters to step forward with such innovations and KE, which believes in giving back to the society, will lend its hand for maximum support,” said the KE spokesperson.

NED isn’t the first university from Pakistan to have taken part in the SAE competition. Just recently, a group of students from NUST became the first to make the country’s first electric formula car. Sponsored by Bank Alfalah, they also took part in the American version of SAE, Formula SAE® Lincoln 2016.

Update: An earlier version of this article said that the formula car was Electric. The article has been updated after confirmation.
