Here’s a list of countries that are receiving Huawei’s HongMeng OS in first phase

Well, Huawei had revealed the timeline of launching its new OS to potentially replace Android in upcoming phones. Previously, there was apparently an internal confusion about the launch of the new OS. HongMeng or Ark whatever it will be called according to your respective market is not rolling out in June this year, instead, Huawei has confirmed that HongMeng OS might be ready for a launch in China in late 2019 with an international release sometime in 2020.

As of now, according to a patent filed by Huawei in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Brand Database, as spotted by GSM Arena, Huawei has requested to trademark its new “Hongmeng” OS in several countries. The major countries added to the list are as follow;

  1. Australia
  2. Canada
  3. Cambodia
  4. European Union
  5. Indonesia
  6. India
  7. Mexico
  8. Spain
  9. Switzerland
  10. Thailand

Seeing our neighboring country in the patent filing, I have a feeling that Huawei may soon add Pakistan along with other emerging markets in the list of countries getting Huawei’s new OS in the first phase.

Meanwhile, Hongmeng OS is expected to provide 60% better performance than Android, as well as support for Android apps, which hints that it could be based on Android’s source code. However, the upcoming OS will have to rely on a third-party app like Huawei’s own App Gallery to download apps. It is also not clear at the moment when it will be able to provide support for all current and future Android apps.

Moreover, Huawei’s new OS is expected to be released alongside Mate 30 series launch in China later this year in October. The OS is expected to become a complete replacement to Android and will run on phones, tablets, computers, TVs and even cars.
