NADRA will develop software to track all foreigners

NADRA intends to develop software to keep track of foreigners visiting the country for security purposes, especially those visiting sensitive locations without prior approval from intelligence agencies. The software will enable provincial governments to keep track of all foreign visitors movements and have an updated record in case any untoward incident occurs.

The decision was taken at a high-level security meeting in Islamabad where various senior intelligence officials and members of the federal government participated. The delegations discussed creating a central databank of all incoming and outgoing foreigners as well as storing the date of arrival and the purpose of the foreigner’s stay in the country. Details regarding the places the foreigners will visit will be stored at a central repository containing immigration documents with the FIA.

The development of this software is necessary because of Chinese officials working on CPEC as well as chances of increased foreign investment and involvement in the country in the near future. Special Protection Unit has been established in Punjab for the protection of Chinese officials working on CPEC. Biometric record and a database containing personal information of the foreigners will be maintained at each district police station.

As of now, it is not clear when we will be seeing this software in action but judging by the level of complexity and the number of critical locations it will be deployed in, it could possibly take a year at the minimum to rollout without any bugs.
