NADRA Warns Against Excessive Photocopying of Sensitive Documents

ISLAMABAD: According to a public advisory from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Pakistani citizens should not make extra copies of their official papers.

For the majority of transactions processed by NADRA offices, the only necessary papers are either the originals or the NADRA-issued numbers. In rare cases where NADRA does not have access to the documents electronically, photocopies will be required.

Types of Documents to Avoid Photocopying

Citizens are strongly encouraged not to photocopy any official documents issued by NADRA, including national identity cards (CNICs), family registration certificates, and others, according to the notice.

In most cases, all that is needed are the original documents or the applicable identification numbers supplied by NADRA. It is unnecessary to make photocopies of these documents because NADRA offices have internet access to them. When some documents cannot be accessed online through NADRA’s system, photocopies may be necessary.

Risks of Excessive Photocopying

In this way, individuals can protect themselves from risks associated with sensitive document photocopying, which can lead to opportunities for fraud or identity theft. Unauthorized individuals can compromise security by manipulating photocopies to an extreme.

Therefore, NADRA has urged its citizens to be vigilant and take the following measures to safeguard their identities: whenever feasible, make official statements using original documents; do not allow the needless photocopying of sensitive documents; and promptly bring any suspicious activities to the attention of the relevant authority.

It should be noted that NADRA has contributed to making sure that the entire procedure is user-friendly and secure. This advisory issue is part of a larger NADRA program that aims to educate the public about proper document-handling practices and the risks associated with excessive photocopying.

Pakistani people can help protect themselves and their identities by following NADRA’s rules, which will also enhance the country’s effort to reduce fraud. All of this comes at a very important time, as protecting personal data has become very important as we get ready for the new digital age.
