Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) congratulated Zong on successful conduction of 5G trials in Pakistan and assured the mass public that more trials will be run in near future. Currently Zong is the first and only network to conduct the testing in Pakistan and it was also the first operator in the country to cross 11,000+ 4G towers showing that the company has a robust telecom infrastructure.
While PTA has been engaged in spectrum pricing disputes with operators, Zong has been working on the sidelines on its 5G infrastructure. In the U.S, where 5G has been deployed on a limited scale, the download speeds are near or above 1000+ MB/s showing a massive improvement over the 4G/LTE spectrum.
PTA has unveiled its roadmap for facilitating public testing of 5G technology and related services in Pakistan and the regulator reaffirmed its commitment to supporting technology and innovation in Pakistan. The regulator congratulated Zong CMPAK stating that the 5G test is a proud moment and a testament to the accelerating technological innovation within the country.
Wireless technology developments, like 5G are expected to deliver increased flexibility, reliability and capacity to help meet requirements of a Digital Pakistan. This trial is the first one being conducted and there will be more on the different scenarios of 5G in the near future.
It’s unclear right now which operator will be taking up 5G trials after Zong but we assume that all operators have a 5G adoption strategy in line with the Government requirements. Zong was the first to launch 4G and the first to test 5G in Pakistan. Whether they also become the first to launch 5G commercially remains to be seen.
