Pakistan imported $160.271 million in mobile phones for the first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23), a fall of 67.62 percent from $494.960 million during the same time the previous year.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), mobile phone imports fell 7.38 percent monthly (MoM) to $58.407 million in September 2022, down from $63.06 million in August 2022.
In September 2022, mobile phone imports fell 72.06 percent yearly (YoY) to $209.013 million, compared to $209.013 million the previous month.
Total Telecom Imports
Overall, telecom imports into the nation totaled $248.998 million in the first quarter of FY23, a decline of 60.96 percent from $637.874 million at the same time the previous fiscal year.
However, telecom imports fell by 70.89 percent year on year in September 2022, to $78.846 million from $270.823 million in September 2021. On a month-to-month basis, overall telecom imports decreased by 22.35 percent in September 2022, compared to $101.537 million in August 2022.
Other apparatus imports totaled $88.727 million in July-September 2022, representing a 37.92 percent decrease from the previous fiscal year’s total of $142.914 million.
Other apparatus remained at $20.439 million in September 2022, representing 66.93 percent negative growth when compared to $61.810 million in September 2021 and 46.88 percent negative growth on a month-to-month basis when compared to $38.477 million in August 2022.
