Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been directed by the Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile phone and internet services. According to PTA sources, the directive was issued by the Ministry in an official letter yesterday.
Mobile phone and internet services are currently operational; however, they will be suspended in specific regions tomorrow. The sources further stated that the situation is still being evaluated.
The suspension of internet and mobile services may not occur, depending on the circumstances. However, it is improbable.
This disproves a previous report from the PTA chairman, which asserted that there have been no orders to disrupt mobile services and the internet in response to the PTI protests. It has been verified by PTA’s sources that the Interior Ministry has issued orders for the suspension of internet access.
Additional information regarding the duration of the suspension and the areas that are affected is anticipated.
