Microsoft Warns Of Windows 11 Installation Media Bug Affecting Security Updates

Microsoft has issued a warning regarding a significant issue affecting Windows 11 installations. The issue appears when utilizing manually manufactured installation media, such as USB drives or CDs, that contain the October or November 2024 security patches. Devices that use this media may become unable to receive future Windows security upgrades, possibly leaving computers exposed.

This issue affects systems for which the installation media had been built with October or November 2024 security updates. Devices updated through Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are not affected.

Microsoft’s Recommended Solution

To address this problem, Microsoft advises users to recreate their installation media using the December 2024 security update, released on December 10, 2024. For those who have already installed Windows 11 using the affected media, the recommended course of action is to reinstall the operating system with the updated installation files. This will also ensure that the system can accommodate future security updates in the right manner.

Additional Issues in Windows 11

Beyond the installation media bug, Windows 11 version 24H2 has been associated with other issues, including:

  • Audio Problems: Some users have reported issues with specific audio devices, leading to functionality problems.
  • Google Workspace Sync Issues: There have been reports of Outlook launching with outdated Google Workspace Sync, affecting user experience.
  • Game Compatibility: Certain Ubisoft games have exhibited compatibility difficulties with the new Windows 11 version.

Microsoft is actively working on fixes for these issues to enhance system stability and user experience. Microsoft emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining up-to-date installation tools and operating systems. To protect against potential vulnerabilities and guarantee optimal system performance, it is important to regularly check for updates through certified channels such as Windows Update.
