Microsoft to launch Surface Pro with LTE on December 1st

Microsoft is gearing up to launch its next Surface Pro and this time with LTE support. It was first announced earlier this year and Microsoft promised to launch it before the end of this year. Now Microsoft has confirmed that it will launch the new Surface Pro on December 1st.

The full name for the new laptop is Microsoft’s Surface Pro with LTE Advanced. Microsoft will include 20 LTE bands in the LTE model to ensure that the LTE works in all countries. Microsoft will include the Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 modem in its new laptop. The new Surface Pro will also have a great battery life. Microsoft says that it will run 13.5 hours on video playback. Using LTE on the device will obviously impact the battery life but we will have to wait and see how much.

Microsoft Surface Pro with LTE Advanced will come in 2 variants. There is a variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD storage and there is a model which comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage. The 4GB version will cost $1,149 and the 8GB version will cost $1,449. Microsoft is targetting the 8GB model towards businesses. Both models will include Intel Core i5 processors.

To use LTE on the new Surface Pro, it is not necessary to put a SIM card in it as it also supports e-Sim technology. e-Sim stands for electronic SIM and it lets you configure the LTE on supported networks without the need of a physical SIM card.

Here’s what Microsoft has to say about their new laptop:

“The office is no longer restricted to a set of buildings – it’s at home, in a café, a city across the globe, or on a plane. With so many changing locations your device becomes your office, and many of our customers tell us that’s what their Surface is to them – a mobile office.”
