Microsoft completely redesigns Skype for desktop

Microsoft updated the mobile version of Skype to 8.0 a few months ago. The new mobile version of Skype introduced a completely new design and it also helped it to hit a billion downloads on Play Store.

Microsoft has been testing the new mobile design on desktops recently and it finally launched the new design for Windows and Mac as well. If you are a Skype desktop user, you should update it to the latest version to enjoy the new interface and some amazing new features.

The new Skype includes customizable themes where you can pick between different color to make our Skype look the way you want. It also introduces an ability to sort chats by time, unread, or status. A new notification panel is also there which lets you manage missed calls, reaction to messages and mentions in group chats. The new version also supports add-ins. With the new add-ins support, you’ll be able to add Giphy images or YouTube videos straight into chats.

Skype for mobile introduced 3 tabs where you can manage your chats and contacts separately. It also introduced highlights in the new update which works like Snapchat stories feature where you share your photos and your friends can see them for 24 hours. Moreover, the new Skype for Android also introduced the card UI. It periodically shows you floating cards on the screen.

There is one thing to be noted that the new highlights feature is not available in Skype for desktop for some unknown reason. However, Microsoft plans to add the feature in the near future. For now, it remains mobile exclusive.

The new Skype is now available for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Mac OS.
