Meta Connect 2022 Highlights: “Avatars will now have ‘legs'”

Facebook famously released a surprise last year at Meta Connect: it would now be renamed Meta and focus on establishing the “metaverse.” Following billions of dollars invested in the future of virtual reality, the renamed Meta returned this year with its next major announcement: legs.

Yes, avatars will gain legs – our so-called disembodied torsos will finally become bipedal.

Today’s most anticipated unveiling was the Meta Quest Pro, a high-end VR headset priced at $1,499.99. However, in addition to its new hardware and legs, Meta revealed several upgrades to its strategy to conquer virtual reality.

At Meta Connect 2022, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other Meta executives unveiled the following:

The Quest Pro will be available this month

Meta introduced the new Quest Pro headset after months of speculation. Meta’s previous headset, the Quest 2, aimed to create an inexpensive, consumer-grade device. But the mixed reality Quest Pro is Meta’s time to show off the fruits of Reality Labs’ investment.

Microsoft is collaborating with Meta to bring office features to virtual reality

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella joined Zuckerberg at Meta Connect to announce the addition of Windows applications, a Teams link, and Xbox Cloud Gaming to Quest. Users will also have access to progressive web app versions of programmes, including as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.

Avatars for Microsoft Teams

Meta said that it has installed 60,000 Quest 2 headsets as part of a cooperation with Accenture and that it would launch a “Meta Quest for Business” subscription package next year.

“There’s a chance for a VR headset designed from the bottom up to be terrific for work and gaming and socialising,” Zuckerberg remarked.

CTO Andrew Bosworth seemed to be on the same path, stating that VR headsets may completely replace our desktop computers one day. When we see it, we’ll believe it.

Meta has finally published some income figures

Meta has been reticent to release any financial information regarding its metaverse. According to the corporation, its Quest Store has produced more than $1.5 billion in in-game and software sales. That seems remarkable, but remember that Meta only invested $2.8 billion in virtual reality last quarter.

Meta is now introducing a product bundle to help you stay sweat-free while boxing in your headphones. You receive a wipeable facial interface, wrist straps, and adjustable knuckle straps for $69.99.

Meta signs a deal with NBCUniversal. Peacock, a streaming app, is coming to Quest as part of a multiyear agreement. Meta has stated that it will create experiences based on intellectual property such as “The Office,” Universal Monsters, DreamWorks, Blumhouse, and Halloween Horror Nights.

But what if legs had the power to alter everything? Horizon Worlds is a cringe-worthy attempt to persuade people that the metaverse is awesome. But what if our disembodied torsos had legs? We’ll finally look at genuine people with the upcoming Meta avatar upgrade.

During the presentation, Zuckerberg joked, “Seriously, legs are hard!”

If you’re eager to edit spreadsheets, jump on Teams conversations in VR, and stretch your new digital legs, the Quest Pro is now available for presale and will ship on October 25.
