Facebook Messenger is getting a refresh with camera modes present currently on Instagram such as Boomerang and AR-stickers mode. Boomerang is a video looping effect which has seen huge success on Instagram which allows users to put the subject of the photo or video in crisper focus. Extra add-ons include AR stickers and holiday-themed stickers to include in your Facebook stories.
Messenger has also received a minor design change in layout. If you click on the camera option, there will be 5 modes listed: Boomerang, Normal, Video, Text, and Selfie which are the same currently available on Instagram. Previously Messenger used to display lenses and filters for users to choose from to include in their videos and photos.
According to a Facebook spokesperson, the new camera modes are going to be available globally starting today. These changes in Messenger are part of a campaign by Facebook to encourage users to use their messaging app more. Technically speaking however, Messenger offers far more functionality than just messaging such as playing games to talking to chatbots and sending individual stories to your friends, which is a Snapchat feature by the way. Facebook and Messenger combined stories have around 300 million daily users and it’s going up steadily.
