Meezan Bank Releases Cybersecurity Advisory Following Unauthorized Transaction Claims

Meezan Bank has responded to recent reports of unauthorized transactions on its debit and credit cards, with several customers alleging third-party data breaches.  The bank confirmed receiving fewer than ten complaints, attributing the incidents to customers inadvertently sharing sensitive information on insecure e-commerce sites.

In its official response, Meezan Bank categorically denied any data breach, assuring customers that its systems remain secure. The bank emphasized that all its debit and credit cards are PCI-DSS compliant and meet the highest security standards, including EMV and 3D Secure certifications.

The unauthorized transactions were attributed to external platforms where security measures were not fully enforced. Affected customers have been reimbursed through the chargeback mechanisms of international payment networks, in line with the bank’s established protocols.

Customers affected by these charges are being compensated without delay. To further protect online transactions, Meezan Bank has outlined key security tips for its customers:

  • Avoid entering card details on untrusted or suspicious websites.
  • Refrain from conducting financial transactions over unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts through emails, phone calls, or messages asking for sensitive information, even if they appear legitimate.
  • Immediately notify the bank if a card is lost or stolen.

Meezan Bank encouraged customers to continue using their cards confidently on trusted online platforms and reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of data security and customer protection.
