And my badass flagship has yet to receive Android Oreo update.
Sometimes, I really feel embarrassed for being too late for getting the latest Android update. Yes, you guessed it right, I am using the “Al-Mighty” Galaxy S7 Edge, the smartphone of the slowest Android update introducer, Samsung. And the folks at XDA developers have already tested the Android P in Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro.
Google announced the first developer preview of Android P (‘peanuts’ you thought), though the name of the upcoming pure Android is not confirmed yet. The developers’ site notes that Huawei is testing Android P on the Chinese variant of the Huawei Mate 10, “ALP-AL00.” Firstly, they had to rebrand the Mate 10 Pro to the Chinese Mate 10 and then update to this Android P testing build with the help of FunkyHuawei.club service.
The site notes that the testing build is far from final and doesn’t offer things like Material Design 2 or new iPhone X-style gesture navigation. Although the EMUI version is listed as 8.2, the build is indeed Android P since the build number is listed at 9.0 and the Android Easter Egg is for Android P. Otherwise, apps that are in the build were built with the Android P SDK.
Meanwhile, other devices which are currently being tested with Android P developer preview include Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and technically the Huawei Watch 2 for Wear OS based on Android P.
Android P is said to bring many exciting features including the likes of a native call recording feature, better security compared to the older version Android Oreo 8.0, a new coat of colors and will accommodate new Android smartphones with ‘notches’.
Just to recall, Mate 10 Pro is one of the best devices, with AI-powered chipsets and an outstanding camera. Previously, with the help of the phone’s cameras and object recognition technology powered by Kirin 970, the team at Huawei managed to teach the phone to drive a car by recognizing obstacles in the road and avoiding them. Huawei Mate 10 series currently runs Android Oreo and it will be nice to see the next Android coming to these devices, but it’s not happening anytime soon.
