Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched the Aqua Shrimp Farming Internship Program, aimed at offering practical training and career opportunities to young individuals with degrees in Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Zoology.

The program, to be implemented through the Fisheries Department’s Shrimp Farm in Muzaffargarh and involving young zoologists to be trained there, aims to provide hands-on experience to the youth in shrimp farming. CM Maryam Nawaz was assuring the interns that they would be paid Rs 50000 per month for six months.

She further explained that young individuals can apply for the internship program online through the job portal website. “Shrimp farming holds immense potential, with global demand offering great benefits,” she said. “It is possible to generate more than $1 billion in foreign exchange by utilizing just 100,000 acres of land for shrimp farming.”

Explaining the economic benefits, Maryam Nawaz Sharif also said that shrimp farming on the barren and otherwise unutilized land of South Punjab will yield high returns and revolutionize the region’s economy. To support this endeavor, land, concession and all requisite equipment will be made available by the government on lease to farmers and investors.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that shrimp farming could generate employment for about 10,000 to 20,000 youths in the state, offering the youth a chance for self-employment and financial independence.
