Mark Zuckerberg’s Twitter and Pinterest accounts were hacked yesterday. While the situation was not particularly alarming, it has come to light that Zuckerberg also fell prey to the “LinkedIn Password Dump”.
Like all of us these days, Mark Zuckerberg also has multiple social media accounts. But the recent predicament shows that he doesn’t necessarily follow the standard security procedures on other platforms. OurMine Team, the group responsible for hacking Zuckerberg’s accounts, reportedly gained access to Zuckerberg’s passwords via the LinkedIn Password Dump. For those of you who may not be aware of what this is, around mid-May LinkedIn became a victim of a huge security breach. Millions of accounts were compromised after their security credentials were leaked online. As a security measure, LinkedIn had to reset passwords of all the affected users.
But most of us tend to have similar, if not the same, passwords for our various online accounts. And it appears, so does Mark Zuckerberg. Using his password from the LinkedIn password dump, OurMine team was able to hack his Twitter and Pinterest. Twitter was quick to react and Mark’s account was restored in a few hours with the offending tweet from the hackers deleted. His Pinterest has also been restored.
There was some news circling that Mark’s Instagram was also breached. However, Facebook reps have denied any such claims saying that “no Facebook systems or accounts were accessed”.
If you also happen to have a LinkedIn account, we suggest you follow proper measures and secure your other accounts as well.
