We all set our New Year resolutions only to forget them later. However, when we talk about billionaires, they tend to keep their promises. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg intends to host a series of public discussions regarding the future of technology which includes “the opportunities, the challenges, the hopes, and the anxieties.” The discussions will be public and will be available either on his Facebook or Instagram page.
Mark’s previous resolutions have been to build an AI for his home, run 365 miles, visit every US state, read 25 books, and learn Mandarin. This year, he will be holding discussions or you can call it “talk shows” with leaders of the industry and he will be asking them these questions every few weeks. He hasn’t announced when the first talk show will be held but if we were to predict, you can expect a public discussion at the end of this month.
Speaking about the activity in a post on Facebook, he said:
This will be intellectually interesting, but there’s a personal challenge for me here too. I’m an engineer, and I used to just build out my ideas and hope they’d mostly speak for themselves. But given the importance of what we do, that doesn’t cut it anymore. So I’m going to put myself out there more than I’ve been comfortable with and engage more in some of these debates about the future, the tradeoffs we face, and where we want to go.
Are you excited about Zuckerberg’s upcoming public discussion series? Who do you think will be the first leader he will talk to? My personal guess is Bill Gates will be the first one but perhaps he could choose someone from within Facebook like Sheryl Sandberg or others. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
