Malware could infiltrate your computer if you download pirated Game of Thrones TV show

Sometimes, Malware cuts deeper than swords!

If you don’t care that you are breaking the law when you download pirated Game of Thrones TV show, then at least worry about breaking your computer.

A cybersecurity company Kaspersky has recently published a report on scammers’ use of popular TV shows to spread malware. The report reveals that the top pirated shows’ like HBO’s premier TV series, Game of Thrones, are most likely to infect your computers with malicious files.

Kaspersky details that the malware disguised as episodes of popular TV shows in 2018 could affect your computers as these torrent downloads are dark and full of terrors. The report also revealed that the Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Arrow were the worst shows for malware.

According to the report, the 2018 stats briefed that Game of Thrones pirated downloads reportedly accounted for 17 percent of the total infected downloads which accounts for 20,934 users, even though the HBO’s premier show didn’t even release any episode in 2018.

The firm also pointed out that the first episode of the series, “Winter is Coming” was the most dangerous of all episodes as it was more vulnerable to malware. The report has shed light on 33 types of such malware threats connected with Game of Thrones pirated downloads.

In short, if you have already made up your mind to not watch the TV show through an authorized streaming service, you may need to be careful from the deeper cuts of the malware. You have to make sure that the website is legitimate before downloading from it. Also, check the URL format and spelling to ensure it’s not fake. While downloading a TV show make sure the file you are downloading doesn’t end in .exe. It is always a good method to check the comments about a downloadable file to make sure they’re related to the TV show.
