Major update in Galaxy A80 brings camera improvements

The South Korean tech giant has just rolled out a software update that adds auto-focus functionality to the front camera on the rotate-able camera phone — Galaxy A80. For such a device that enables the use of the same high-quality camera setup for selfies and landscape photos, you had expected to have all features of that camera setup in both selfie and rear camera mode. However, that is not the case, however, and it looks like Samsung wants to fix some of that through software updates.

As you know that Galaxy A80 was launched back in April, the company is now introducing various software updates to make its experience better. There are quite a few consistency issues between selfie mode and when you’re taking photos with the cameras facing away from you. The camera doesn’t remember settings between the two modes, neither does it support features like Scene Optimizer or the LED flash when you’re taking selfies. The camera assembly itself isn’t tested very well and can get stuck in the rotation process even a week or two after you start using the device, painting a bleak picture of its long-term durability.

The Galaxy A80 software update comes with software version and bundles the July 2019 security patch. It’s available over the air and also via Samsung’s Smart Switch software and from this firmware section.

As far as the phone’s features and specs are concerned, the phone’s body is a mixture of metal and glass exactly like the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphone. It has a 6.7-inch FHD+ new infinity display with 1080 ×2400 resolution. The bezel-less screen of the new smartphone holds a fingerprint scanner under it like the Galaxy S10. The phone system packs a 2.2.GHz (2.2GHz Dual + 1.8GHz Hexa) octa-core processor with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB built-in storage, with unfortunately no option for expansion.

The new A-series smartphone has a 3700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. The phone also has a battery optimization feature, which after analyzing your daily routine optimizes the performance of the battery. The phone runs on the new Android Pie with One UI software.

The smartphone also contains Bixby with a dedicated button as well as support for Samsung Pay and a Dolby Atmos speakers or 360° surround sound. The Galaxy A80 will be available in Ghost White, Phantom Black, and Angel Gold. The price of the phone as affirmed by Samsung is around $730 and it is expected to cost over PKR 100,000 in Pakistan.
