As the first week of June draws to an end, all eyes will be on Apple’s developer conference (WWDC) being held on the 8th of June. The wave of rumour mills will not stop pertaining to what will Apple be announcing at the conference. An overview of what is expected to be announced will be shared below:
iOS 9 is not expected to be a massive revamp unlike iOS 7 or 8. The focus is to make it stable, robust and underlined with bug fixes as new features take a backseat. Work is undergoing to reduce the firmware’s footprint on the device storage which caused much consternation last year at time of iOS 8 release. Apple is expected to announce a newly revamped iTunes Music app which is being churned out as a replacement to the Beat’s music app which it acquired last year during its purchase. Unlike previous beta releases being limited to developers, there are wide expectations of a public beta rollout for iOS 9 this time.
Much akin to yearly refreshes, Mac OS X is expected to house a new version this year. Internally known as ‘Gala‘ the naming sequences of Apple for OS X have been an area of intense debate since ever. The focus in this years release is expected to be on stability, security & design to fix the problems that plagued the launched of its predecessor, Yosemite. The new version will also have a beta available at the time of its announcement most probably.
It has been a few years since the Apple TV 3rd generation was launched, and rumours are flying out that a newly revamped device is expected to debut at the conference this year. A NYT report claimed recently that the remote control will be revamped with a touch pad along with a mandatory hardware refresh.
Homekit, Apple’s home-automation/Internet of Things concept was announced last year along with iOS 8 at WWDC 2014. It has been mired by delays for public launch, and with competitors like Google announcing their own Internet of Things solution, Apple is treading on thin air.
Apple has announced that its WWDC 2015 will be available to stream live for those using Safari on OS X or iOS, or through its Apple TV box.
