Rubab Zahra, a student of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has been selected for CERN’s openlab Summer Student Program 2018. Pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science, Zahra is one of the 39 students who got selected from a pool of 1820 applications received across the globe.
CERN openlab works towards developing cutting-edge ICT solutions through public-private partnerships with research institutes and leading ICT companies. Zahra will be deployed in Geneva for nine weeks where she will be pursuing a research project to containerize Ceph deployment. Ceph is an open-source storage platform that is being used at CERN for many years.
At the CERN openlab Summer Student Program, students will get an opportunity to visit accelerators and companies that are pursuing research in experimental areas. They will also be given a series of lectures by CERN experts and researchers from other institutes exploring various ICT subjects. Previously, Azqa Nadeem from NUST also qualified for this program and represented Pakistan at the global research facility.
