To improve the country’s education system, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has reportedly partnered with Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) – an agreement between parties indicating a common goal.
Dr. Syed Sohail Hussain Naqvi, Vice Chancellor LUMS said on the occasion, “The collaboration between the Punjab Group of Colleges and LUMS SoE will serve an important role in reforming the education sector in Pakistan.”
Emphasizing on the importance of MoU, Prof. Sohail Afzal, Executive Director Punjab Group of Colleges added, “There is a need for the continuous professional development of teaching faculty; our teachers need to be trained to develop the knowledge and skills to address students’ learning challenges”.
Moreover, Dr. Mariam Chughtai, Associate Dean LUMS SoE talked about the opportunity to refine the education policy of the country. She said while addressing the audience, “Education is the driver of economic growth and the fastest growing sector in Pakistan. We must look at this as an opportunity between the two institutions to impact policy reform.”
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, the Project Director Allied Schools stated that the magnitude of the work for both the institutions LUMS SoE and PGC, is gigantic and weighty to fulfill the immediate and imminent needs in the field of education across Pakistan where literacy rate, teachers’ professional development, and institutional effectiveness are questionable.
He further added that this partnership would take part in high-quality education research that will potentially fill the gap between the theory and practice in the education sector of the country. For the sake of research, the graduate students would have access to the data shared by PGC and Allied Schools. They will also be given the option of a full-time residency at PGC for one whole semester.
