Local govt restores mobile internet services in tribal district Bajaur as directed by PM

As promised by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, the local administration of the tribal district Bajaur have finally decided to restore mobile internet services in Bajaur after suspension of around three years.

An official of the local administration of the tribal district told Dawn News that the decision to restore the mobile internet service was made on the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s directives, who recently visited the tribal areas last week.

The Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur tribal district Usman Mehsud announced in a notification that;

“In compliance of the directions of the Honourable Prime Minister Islamic Republic of Pakistan during his visit to Tribal District Bajaur on 15th March 2019, the Provincial Govt. has decided to unblock the 2G/3G/4G services of different cellular companies operating in the Tribal District Bajaur.”

Meanwhile, the people of Bajaur have welcomed this decision by district administration as the region was lacking mobile internet service since June 12, 2016, over security reasons.

Bajaur region of Malakand division, which was previously an agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), became a district after the merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. The residents of Bajaur district now believe that the restoration of mobile internet service would boost socio-economic activities in the region.

Since the local government has allowed the restoration and installation of 2G/3G/4G services, it’s now up to the cellular operators to equip the region with required telecom infrastructure so that mobile internet service gets activated for real.
