The co-founder of one of the leading smartphone company in the world Steve Wozniak said in an interview with a media outlet TMZ, that most people should “figure out a way to get off Facebook”. Keeping in note the continuous efforts made by Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, to increase the privacy of users on the social media website, Wozniak is still not convinced that Facebook is keeping our personal interactions secret or confidential.
Steve further said, “There are many different kinds of people and some of the benefits of Facebook are worth the loss of privacy. But to many like myself, my recommendation to most people is, you should figure out a way to get off Facebook”.
Wozniak also suggested that Facebook should odder users the choice to pay money for an extra layer of security so that the social media website don’t have to earn money by giving personal data of users to the advertisers. Apple co-founder, who started Apple company with Steve Jobs from a garage is very open when it comes to the discussion regarding the privacy on social media platforms. Last year, while talking to USA Today, he said that he was leaving Facebook over privacy concerns. Moreover, he said that he would rather pay for Facebook than have his personal data shared with advertisers.
Facebook, along with other major tech websites like Google and Twitter are facing heavy scrutiny from the past few years over how they handle user’s personal data and the role these platforms have played in political campaigns. Apple, however, has made privacy a major key point of its public keynotes and product commercials.
The company continuously reminds people that user’s privacy is their main concern and that their business model does not heavily rely on advertising, which is usually the case with Facebook and Google.
Do you agree with Wozniak’s suggestion? Would you pay for Facebook, to add an extra layer of security?
