A leaked photo of a Facebook employee using messenger on Mac suggests that Facebook might soon launch a stand alone messenger for Apple mac users.
The photo was leaked by a source of TechCrunch. Facebook also hastily launched a desktop client for Windows PC users after the download link was leaked by an early tester. The windows client was never given the attention and focus by Facebook and it was quietly discontinued. After that, Facebook also launched a standalone messenger application for web to allow users to avoid their newsfeed and use messenger when needed.
A mac client might be helpful for users who don’t want to use the network at work, but want to stay in contact with friends through the messaging application. After all, it is very annoying when you have to open the whole facebook website in order to reply a message. Facebook already is treating messaging separately by forcing the users to use the standalone messaging application on mobile.
This development also hints Facebook’s effort to lead the messaging industry as well. But on the contrary, the application might just be available on Facebook’s internal network for its employees for better productive communications with teammates at work.
