Leaked document shows whether your iPhone is eligible for repair or not

In case you were wondering whether that broken display of your iPhone is covered under warranty or not, Apple has a 22-page guide which helps their staff determine whether the device is applicable for repairs and if you’ll be charged for it or not. The document was leaked on Business Insider and it is entitled “Visual/Mechanical Inspection Guide” and it covers iPhone 6, 6S, and 7 and the respective Plus variants.

The manual in question is only used when the staff encounters an abnormal issue. In most cases, the cases are quickly identified and sorted by the staff. It’s interesting to note how they cover the damages, the picture below shows how they deal with general physical damage to the phone and three categories it is sorted into:

I do recommend giving the “Ineligible for Service” section a good read because if your device has suffered catastrophic damage then get ready to buy a new phone. Any tampering with the iPhone will also land you in this section so keep in mind to use genuine products.

Also be aware that even though the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are “water resistant” and can withstand splashes and immersion in less 1 meter of water, any damage caused by the liquid to these phones isn’t covered by warranty. So it is best to avoid doing any experiments just to check this feature of your phone.
